The Team

 

STAFF

38 Degrees has a small team of staff in London. Over the next few months we hope to be recruiting two brilliant campaigners and some enthusiastic volunteers, so if you are interesting in working or volunteering with us please get in touch.

David Babbs - Executive Director

David works with other groups, charities and individuals to build our peopled powered movement. Sometimes he talks about our campaigns on the TV and radio. David makes sure that our campaigns are led by our members and achieve real impact.

He likes tea, gardening and dancing.

David previously worked at Friends of the Earth where he led the mobilisation for the Big Ask campaign, which achieved the world's first Climate Change Law with binding targets.  He's previously worked on campaigns on poverty, refugee rights, and social housing.

Hannah Lownsbrough - Campaigns Director

Hannah runs many of our campaigns as well as doing lots of online work, writing copy, blogging and building our people powered movement. She is often on Twitter and Facebook (her tweets are signed with HL on Twitter). 

Hannah has worked as a campaigner on a range of issues including climate change and human rights. Prior to that she was a researcher at Demos where she focussed on social exclusion and public services.

Johnny Chatterton - Campaigner

Johnny runs some of the 38 Degrees campaigns, blogs, writes emails and also develops the 38 Degrees e-campaigning strategy. Like Hannah he is often on Twitter and Facebook (His tweets are signed JC on Twitter).  

He likes cake, ducks and penguins.

Johnny was formerly Campaigns Officer at the Burma Campaign UK and was Project Manager of 64forSuu.org. He has been involved with a number of successful campaigns against companies including HSBC and Cotton Traders.

Nina Kowalska - Operations Director

Nina keeps 38 Degrees running smoothly by doing the communications, finance and a huge amount of other work.

She likes owls.

Nina was formerly Project Director iamanactivist.org, Director of Amazon Rainforest Foundation and St. Luke’s Communications. Expertise in communications and organisational management.

Warren Puckett - IT Director

Founder - Peat Fire Studios. Partner - Provokateur. Ex Associate Director of FiftyCrows Foundation in San Francisco. Expertise in web development, design and e-campaigning.

 

THE BOARD

Gordon Roddick - Chair
Co-founder of The Body Shop International. Active supporter of community and several social enterprises, including founding The Big Issue.

Ben Brandzel
Director of New Media Campaigns and Fundraising for the Democratic Party and Organizing for America (succesor organization to the Obama campaign). Former Advocacy Director of MoveOn, Adviser to GetUp, Campaign Director and Founding Board Member of Avaaz and North Carolina Online Campaign Director for Barack Obama. Consultant to NGOs and progressive political parties globally.

Peter Myers
Co-founder - OneHundredMonths.org. Director - enoughsenough.org. Formerly Special Projects at Greenpeace and The Climate Group. First twelve years of career in corporate finance.

Benedict Southworth
Director of the World Development Movement since September 2005. Former Director of Amnesty International's international Campaign Program, Head of Greenpeace International's global climate campaign and a campaigner for Friends of the Earth in the UK.

Henry Tinsley
Former Chair of Green & Blacks Chocolate. He has been an investor and board member in many businesses, mostly in the food industry. A political activist since he was 18, Henry now spends much of his time engaged in charitable and campaigning activities. He is a trustee of the Carter Centre UK, Technoserve Europe & Article 1.

Anita Roddick (1942-2007)
We would like to acknowledge that the development of 38 Degrees comes out of the spirit of and owes a great deal to the legacy of Dame Anita Roddick.
